2025 in review
Hello all, Jenny Lee Maas here... 2025 was an interesting year, I'm starting to pick up pace since performing is new to me, so here are some highlights;
The band has started to experiment & expand. In Late winter Zen Fuzz /Jenny was a featured solo artist in the Bent // Broken online circuit bent festival, it was her 3rd year doing it. This festival is more of a noise art festival that requires participants to have one or more circuit bent instruments as part of their set. Her set is a mix of poetic, melodic and unpredictable noise that is elegant and haunting with dystopian themes that concern her on the daily.
In the spring Bennett Purdy started playing percussion, they had several rehearsals both in studio and outdoors. Jenny played a set for the Philadelphia StrEat Festival in Manayunk on the Roxyunk porchfest stage, she was accompanied by Tom Halbiger on guitar on 2 songs.
In July, Jenny planned her birthday celebration to be the first full set of Zen Fuzz at Fat Lady Brewing (RIP). For this the venue preferred local musicians so Maas put together a bill. Her Zen Fuzz set was a mix of originals, some covers and poems, she was accompanied by Bennett on most songs and Tom on bass on in a handful of songs. Jenny also took her first try at playing bass live and singing in the opening act, Future Antiques with Tom and Connor Lewis (drummer). It was an experimental band currently on an uncertain hiatus. The second band was a local Philly solo act Ministry of Bad Ideas whose pieces are a mix of satirical, musical and political themes with songs like End of an Empire.
The fall was quiet, with a performance at Roxyunk porch-fest as a duo of Jenny & Bennett. Jenny also played solo at another address, and was excited to have more time performing.
Throughout the year Jenny attended many jams and open mics around Philadelphia to experiment, sharpen her performance and build community. It was through these jams that she met Band mates and collaborators.
As conversations about the future of Zen Fuzz started, so did building this website to keep people updated about releases and shows. If you signed up on Jenny's e-mail list at shows, open mics or told her to keep you in the loop that's why you are receiving this. Posts will be used primarily for announcements on show dates, releases, merch drops and maybe an occasional think piece.
And if you didn't know there is a Zen Fuzz YouTube channel with lots on it, including some of the events mentioned here, so, give it a follow!
We are booking for the new year and hope to be playing a lot more shows. If you want to book us, or have an idea for a show or want to share a bill please reach out! We want to start tours 😊
Thanks for following, hope to see you out there!
Peace!
